Energy Assurance / Smart Grid Resiliency Program

Given the wide range of energy suppliers in Idaho and the varied state of technological development of those suppliers, each area of the state has differing needs and challenges associated with providing a secure and consistent system of energy delivery to customers. The objective of this project is to identify collectively our current state of systems development and define the direction we would like to take as we change and improve our energy generation, delivery and utilization systems. We intend to lay out a statewide plan that will help to minimize outages while we incorporate technological advancements into our energy systems.

To this end, a project oversight team is being developed. The team will include industry leaders from Utilities, the Idaho National Laboratory, the Center for Advanced Energy Studies, the Association of Idaho Cities, the Idaho Association of Counties, various state departments, the Federal government, and representatives from some of our surrounding states. The team will identify our current state of Energy Assurance, line out our foreseeable future, and identify our specific current and future needs.

From the information compiled by the team, an Energy Assurance plan will be developed and incorporated into our Statewide Emergency Operations Plan. Toward the end of the grant period, the Office, through the team, will schedule and conduct inter- and intra-state training and practice exercises in communities throughout Idaho and in our surrounding states based on local and/or regional need.
